Approach
The main premise of most treatment programs is to change the way we think of the past, in order to change our current thoughts and behaviours (Dr. Freud’s etiology).
If you want to try something different, we are advocating for goal directed activity (Dr. Adler’s individual psychology). Imagine what would happen if we just did not talk about the past anymore, and we decided to change our thoughts and behaviours today - and that the new role of health care is to help us get through today, while preparing for tomorrow.
-
Individual care – no group therapy
A main premise of many programs is group-based therapy. Our program only has individual discussion and individual care. We believe that many clients want their deeply personal circumstances to remain confidential. We have group education – but we do not have group therapy. As well, we do not offer standardized programming – each program is tailored to you as an individual. -
Multi-disciplinary care.
Your assessment and treatment team will be individualized to your condition – based on what we feel that you need. Our main treatment team consists of general practitioners, registered nurses, psychiatric nurses, clinical psychologists, clinical social workers and clinical addiction workers – although we do have access to other medical and therapy services if required. -
Cost.
The Psychology Association of Saskatchewan recommends $235 per hour. As such, our out-patient therapists charge $170 per hour.
If you choose to stay at our hotel affiliate (The Wellness Hotels at wellnesshotels.ca), overnight stays are $200 per night and three home cooked meals are $100 per day.
We can bill directly to federal insurance, provincial insurance, employee benefit plans (federal, provincial, municipal or private employer benefits plans), bill your employer directly, or bill you directly. If you are paying yourself, you can consider our external financing (credit) options.
If you do not have external funding, and you do not have funding to participate, we have a registered not for profit charity called the Mental Wellness Alliance that will attempt to find financing for you from either governments, businesses, federal/provincial/municipal grants or Communities. We also have a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for people to participate if they do not have funding for treatment.
-
No wait list.
When people are ready for care, they need help immediately, and they deserve help immediately. You can start our out-patient services today or tomorrow. -
Contact with family.
We request that you do not bring your own phone or computer to treatment. At your request, we will include family members (or friends) at the right time to help you start and continue with your new goals. -
Follow-up care.
When you leave, you have the option to be followed up in your community. -
Life coach.
Treatment is less likely to be successful if we do not address current life circumstances. At your request, we will help you find a new job, keep your existing job, determine a new career, help you apply to college, offer marital advice and counselling, help with debt re-structuring, talk with the justice department or police, talk with social services, help apply to various provincial or federal assistance programs and so on. If you ask, we will help in any way we can. You will also be given one or two workbooks on completely different ways of approaching mental health and/or addictions. -
Who do we help?
We are most equipped to deal with functional mental health and functional addiction issues (ex. people who are working, going to school, or living at home - but are finding it harder and harder to cope – and harder and harder to change). We are not equipped to replace the hospital system, the correctional system or the social services system. In plain language, we offer services to those with minor or moderate severity. Extremely complicated cases with complex needs are better suited for long term hospital care. -
We see adults.
You have to be 18 years of age in order to knowingly provide informed consent to out-patient treatment.
-
What we do not do.
We only offer standard medical care (ex. prescription medications like anti-anxiety medications) and therapy (ex. clinical psychologist, clinical social worker, or addictions worker). We do not offer needle exchange, we do not offer methadone maintenance therapy, and we do not offer harm reduction services (like minor amounts of marijuana or alcohol). We are not suggesting that those services can not perhaps benefit some patients, but we do not offer those services. Instead, we offer prescription medications, therapy, life coaching, exercise, dietary change, relaxation, meditation and recreation on an overnight or out-patient basis. -
Our commitment to you.
We are committed to the principles of diversity, equality, and dignity. We are committed to values of fairness, inclusiveness, respect, integrity, honesty, kindness and ethical behaviour. We are committed to the importance of a sense of belonging. -
The Wellness Hotels (at wellnesshotels.ca).
Our hotel affiliates, the Wellness Hotels, have five goals: rest, reflection, recuperation, rejuvenation, and recreation (the 5R’s). Medical services, and therapy services, are not provided at our affiliate hotels. We believe medical and therapy services should only be provided at medical clinics.
